Called "lauulu" in Samoan, the protocol of hair in Samoa has changed drastically from before western contact was made. 

Traditionally, men had long hair, and women kept their hair very short. With the introduction of the missionaries and a passage in Corinthians showing how it was a disgrace for men to have long hair, and glory for women to have long hair, the hair length custom was reversed.
