Malu Dreams is inspired by the beautiful ceremony, tradition, and meaning behind this sacred tatau (tattoo) in Samoa. The malu is a means of protection for the women of Samoa, covering most of the thigh to below the knee. When missionaries arrived in Samoa, they were appalled at the openness of the people of Samoa, and brought shame to showing their marks. This was carried on throughout the years and confused as part of the tradition of Samoa.
While the marks are indeed sacred, they were not hidden by any means.
