The first of my paintings showing the process of receiving the malofie (often called pe‘a). The intimacy within the space of the village, the tufuga (tattooist), the stretchers, and the recipient creates an important moment for this ceremony.
“Vaevae Mānava” is a term for the concept of sharing life, as this moment of life is shared within the village and all involved.
